Name: Štěpán Pechar

Beginnings: I am a very unusual case, because I only started to dance at 20. But my inclination towards choreography did actually develop very early. When I couldn't sleep as a small boy I would imagine how I would walk and create steps through a kind of hall or large room – of course at that point I had no idea what choreography was.

Style: I am very physical. I often go to the physical boundaries and I like it when it goes sky high and the energy is then bundled in a controlled manner. I love risk. And then there is the other side of the coin, i.e. the trust that the dancers have in one another. I also like it when there's plenty of humour – especially with serious or sad themes. Why? Because I think it emphasises the sorrow.

Creation: Waste, as the title already says, is about pollution and wasting on many different levels. I have long been occupied with the question as to what is really important for me in life. We let ourselves be easily distracted from what it's really about, and live our lives caught up in a vicious circle of everyday routines. I'm always asking myself if in retrospect at the end of my life I would have done things differently, used my time differently, would have preferred to spend it with true close friends, my brothers, my family. I think it is a question of priorities.

Either or ...:

1. Listen or shout?
I would say listen. But I think that I can shout!
2. Act or react?
3. Search or find?
Both. There is a complex relationship between beauty and sorrow, which is connected with both terms. When you have found what you're looking for – what then?
